Continuing the saga of Morganville as developed in the first six books, Claire's life takes a new turn. Bishop was vanquished by Amelie at the end of the previous instalment and the vampires of the town cured of their illness by his blood. Amelie now runs the town by herself. At first, life is quiet and normal. Eve gets a role in a theatre production and becomes new best friends with Kim, who turns out to be Shane's ex girlfriend and still interested in him. This causes some friction with Claire because of jealousy. Kim is working on a documentary about Morganville when she disappears. The intrigue is back in Fade Out in full force. Michael is still the good guy, although he is now a vampire. Claire's character has developed quite substantially since the first novel and we get a hint of Michael's feelings for Amelie. Myrnin and his vampire-bunny slippers and the many examples of clever dialogue supply enough humour in Fade Out to keep us entertained. There are many intriguing twists in the second half of Fade Out that set the scene for some interesting developments in the next instalment in the series.
