Crochet the Daffodil Trumpet (Corolla)

This part forms the iconic centre of your crochet daffodil flower.

Please note: At the end of each round, slip stitch to the first stitch and chain 1.
The ch1 does not count as a stitch. Work the first stitch of the next round into the same stitch you slip stitched into.

Using yellow DK yarn:

Round 1: 9dc into a Magic Ring, ss, ch1 (9 sts)

Round 2: (2dc, inc) × 3, ss, ch1 (12 sts)

Round 11: 18dc, ss, ch1

Round 12: (2dc, inc) × 6, ss, ch1 (24 sts)

Round 13: (1dc, ch3, 1dc into next stitch, ss into next stitch) × 8

Finish by fastening off and weaving in ends. Leave a small opening for the stem wire.

Ss to first stitch.

Fasten off and shape the petal. These petals give your crochet daffodil pattern its signature layered look.

Crochet the Sepal

Please note: At the end of each round, slip stitch to the first stitch and chain 1. The ch1 does not count as a stitch.

Using green yarn:

Round 1: 6dc into Magic Ring, ss, ch1

Round 2: (1dc, inc) × 3, ss, ch1

Round 3: (2dc, inc) × 3, ss, ch1

To finish:
Ch1, cut yarn leaving a short tail. Pull yarn through loop and fasten off.
Leave a small opening for the stem wire.

Crochet the Leaf

Using green yarn

Start with a slip knot and ch45.

Round 1:
Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook:
5dc, 30htr, 8dc, 3dc in next stitch (top of leaf),
8dc, 30htr, 5dc.
Ss to first stitch, ch1.

Round 2:
Cut a length of wire (approx. 60cm). Crochet over the wire to allow shaping.

Work:
44dc, 3dc in next stitch (top of leaf), 44dc.
Ss to first stitch.

Cut yarn leaving a short tail. Fasten off and weave in ends at the back of the leaf. This long, elegant leaf adds realism to your crochet daffodil stem.

Assembly

Make the Style

- Cut approx. 20cm of yellow yarn.

- Place a dot of hot glue around 3cm from the top of the flower wire.

- Stick the yarn end into the glue and wrap tightly around the wire to the top.

- Add another small dot of glue at the top and wrap back down to the starting point.

- Secure with another dot of glue and trim excess yarn.

- Apply hot glue around the base of the style.

- Insert the wire through the centre hole of the corolla and secure at the base.

Attach the Petals and Sepal

- Add a small dot of hot glue to the base of the first petal and attach to the base of the corolla.

- Repeat with two more petals so they sit side by side.

- Overlap the remaining three petals between the first layer to create a natural shape.

- Trim petal wires if needed and secure to the stem using masking tape, covering wire ends neatly.

- Thread the stem wire through the sepal.

- Apply glue to the base of the petals and slide the sepal up to secure underneath.

Finish the Stem

- Add a dot of hot glue beneath the sepal.

- Attach green yarn and wrap tightly around the stem to approx. 5cm from the bottom.

- Secure with glue and trim.

- Position the leaf approx. 10cm from the bottom of the stem.

- Glue the base of the leaf to the stem.

- Wrap green yarn around the wire ends to secure, finishing at the same point as before.

- Glue and trim to finish.
