Handprint & Fingerprint Teacher Thank You Cards

There is no doubt that teachers leave a mark on our children long after the school year has ended. For younger children, especially, their first teachers often become such an important part of their world. It's no wonder that saying goodbye at the end of the year can feel emotional for both children and parents alike.

A handmade thank you card, is a lovely way for children to show their appreciation and get them involved in the process of saying goodbye. In this post, you'll find simple fingerprint and handprint thank you card ideas, along with a special whole-class keepsake project.

Handprint & Fingerprint Thank You Cards

You Will Need:

- Card or pre-folded cards
- Kids craft paint
- Paint brush
- A pen

Handprint Butterfly Card

This butterfly card couldn't be simpler, but it's such a sweet keepsake for a special teacher. Fold a piece of card in half and paint one of your child's hands. Press their hand onto one side of the folded card with the thumb pointing upwards and fingers spread out. Carefully close the card while the paint is still wet, then gently open it again to reveal a beautiful symmetrical butterfly.

Once dry, draw a butterfly body and antennae in the centre and let your child decorate the wings with dots, hearts or glitter if they'd like.

Message ideas:

Thank you for helping me spread my wings.
- Thanks for helping me grow.
- Thank you for helping me fly.
- Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher.

Handprint Jellyfish Card

Turn a handprint upside down to create an adorable jellyfish! Paint your child's hand and press it onto the front of a card with the fingers pointing downwards. Once dry, use pens to add a smiling face to the palm and decorate the fingers with wavy lines, bubbles and sea creatures to turn them into flowing tentacles.

Message ideas:

Hope you have a jelly good summer!
- Thanks for being a jelly good teacher!
- Wishing you a jelly-tastic summer holiday!
- Thanks for helping me swim through the school year!

Fingerprint Balloon Card

This colourful card is perfect for little fingers. Using different coloured paints, help your child stamp several fingerprints onto the front of a card, leaving a little space between each one. Once dry, draw thin strings underneath each fingerprint so they become a bunch of balloons.

Message ideas:

Thanks a bunch!
- Thank you for helping me soar.
- You're the best teacher!

Fingerprint Jelly Bean People Card

Stamp fingerprints in neat rows across the front of a card using colourful paints or ink. Once they're dry, your child can have fun drawing tiny faces, arms and legs onto each fingerprint, turning them into cheerful little jelly bean characters.
This card is especially lovely because every fingerprint becomes its own little personality!

Message ideas:

-  You've bean the best teacher!
- Thanks for helping me grow!
- Thank you for bean so kind!
- Thanks for being such a sweet teacher.
