Crochet Mug Cosy - Free Pattern

A crocheted green mug cosy around a portable mug.

Measurements  

Size: approx 11.5cm wide x 6cm long 

 

Materials  

Yarn – Make & Create DK

- Apple Green 

Hook – 4mm

Scissors  

Yarn Needle 

 

Notes  

- Patterns written in UK Terms.  

- Worked in rows. 

 

Abbreviations 

Ch – Chain 

SS – Slip stitch 

DC – Double Crochet 

FPTR – Front Post Treble  

INC - 2 or more stitches in the same stitch  

STS – Number of stiches 

 

Special Stitches 

FPTR – Front Post Treble – Instead of working into the next stitch as normal, insert hook around the post of intended stitch from front to back to front.  

 

Tension 

16 stitches x 22 rows (4 inch square) with the double crochet stitch.  

 

Pattern

To Start: Chain 40, work in the 2nd chain from the hook. 

Row 1: dc in each chain, turn [39 sts] 

Row 2: Ch1, dc in each stitch, turn [39 sts] 

Rows 3 - 4: Repeat row 2. 

Row 5: Ch1, *2dc, fptr around next st 2 rows below; repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, 3dc, turn [39 sts] 

Row 6: Ch1, dc inc, dc in each stitch to the last stitch, dc inc in the last stitch, turn (41 sts) 

Row 7: Ch1, 3dc, fptr around fptr from 2 rows below, *2dc, fptr; repeat from * to the last 4 stitches, 2dc, fptr, 1dc, turn (41 sts) 

Row 8: Ch1, dc inc, dc in each stitch to the last stitch, dc inc in the last stitch, turn (43 sts) 

Note: Remember fptr stitches are done around the stitch 2 rows below, this will be just a dc if there is no fptr. 

Row 9: Ch1, dc, *fptr, 2dc; repeat from * to the last 2 stitches, 2dc, turn (43 sts) 

Row 10: Ch1, dc inc, dc in each stitch to the last stitch, dc inc in the last stitch, turn (45 sts) 

Row 11: Ch1, *2dc, fptr; repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, 3dc, turn (45 sts) 

Row 12: Ch1, dc in each stitch, turn [45 sts] 

Row 13: Ch1, dc in each stitch, turn [45 sts] 

Don’t tie off. 

 

Handle

Row 14: Chain 11, work in 2nd chain from the hook, dc in each chain, turn (10 sts) 

Row 15: Ch1, dc in each stitch (10 sts) 

Cut yarn leaving a long tail to attach. Pull through. 

 

Assembly

Thread apple green onto a yarn needle and sew the 2 ends of your mug cosy together. 

Sew the top of your handle so that it is attached more securely to the top of your cosy. 

Now, thread your needle with the long yarn tail left from your handle and sew your handle halfway down your cosy to secure. 

Cut yarn and sew loose ends in. 

All finished!
