This British, single-engine aircraft with a dural half-shell construction was first flown as a prototype in 1955. The RAF ordered a handful of copies of the Folland Gnat T.1, using it mainly for training and aerobatic flights. India became the main recipient of the aircraft, entering Indian service in 1958. By 1977, the serial production of a modernized version of the aircraft were in full production, known as the Ajeet.
